You have spent a lot of time creating a new website, now you need to start building traffic to your pages.

First of all, you do not need to buy any packages that guarantee traffic. These types of services can be very expensive and very few can guarantee you will receive traffic and most of the time it is not quality traffic.

You don’t want just any visitors, but you want to bring in targeted quality traffic.

Free Traffic To Your Site

If you have not already, create a sitemap then open a free account with Google Webmaster Tools and submit your URL.

If you need help with creating a sitemap and adding your URL to the search engine, check out my website promotion information.

If you have a website, add a blog to it. Do keyword research and use a long tail key phrase (4 words or more) to write blog posts about.

Because the long tail key phrases are not highly search, many times it is easier to achieve higher rankings in the search engines.

Do not use just the search engines to help you generate all your site traffic.

You need to diversify.

Write Articles – submit to the many different article directories. Make sure when you submit to the different directories, you change the article about 60% so each submission will be original content.

E-mails – Add a signature line to all outgoing e-mails.

Write Press Releases for you blog or website.

YouTube – at the beginning and end of the videos you create, put your site URL. Don’t forget when you set up your account to put in your blog/site URL.

Use a ping service – Like Ping-o-matic.com

Use forums to find out what some of the most commonly asked questions within your niche and create blog post to answer them.

When writing a blog post or even a new web page, use the title to ask a question.

These are just a few of the ideas for getting traffic to your website.

You can find many more by going to How Do I Generate Traffic To My Website?

If you build it, they will come is not true anymore with the every changing Internet.

Don’t forget to take a look at your traffic stats every so often to see which type of traffic building promotion is working for you.

Getting indexed by Google fast is every blogger and webmasters dream.

As everyone knows, Google is the biggest search engine online and once your new site is indexed by them, the other engines will find you.

The most obvious way is to use Google to get your website/blog noticed.

The How To

Google Webmaster Tools – sign up for a free account and add your site map. To help you get started, take a look at the information about adding a site. There are also great information called Webmaster Guidelines to help you understand what the search engine wants from your new site.

Google Analytics – Install this free website analytical code on your site to track your visitors.

You can also sign up for Google Adsense as long as your site is not against the TOS (terms of service). You don’t have to start putting ads on your site, but can help with getting your site crawled by Google bot.

Article Submission – Sign up with ezinearticles.com (one of the biggest directories) and write a good quality keyword rich article within your niche. Take advantage of the resource box and put a few links to your new site. Don’t just add a link to your homepage, but also put a link to one of the sub-pages (if it is relevant to your article).

Find a forum that is within your niche and once you sign up, place a link to your website within the signature area and answer questions within the forum. Sometimes this does not work as many of the forums are starting to block signatures until you have so many posts. But if within your niche, keep answering questions until you reach it.

Find blogs that are related to your website niche and leave quality comments on them. Most webmasters will let you leave a link to your website.

YouTube – Create an account about your niche and create an informative video. You can use the info area to place a link back to your site.

Squidoo page – create a lens and place useful information for people to link back to your site.

Yahoo Answers – You can answer questions and use the source area to link back to your site.

Remember, when you are leaving your links at different places online, make sure you are not spamming as they will be deleted very quickly.

By using the above techniques, many people have been indexed in less than 24 hour and others it has taken weeks. So your results will vary.

You can use Google Webmaster Tools and the Analytical Stats to see how you are progressing.

If you are trying to rank for a very competitive keyword, it may take a long time to show up on the top pages.

It is very difficult to start out trying to get at the top of the Search Engine Results Page using very competitive keywords (“money keywords”), as many of the websites that are on the first page have been working at it for years.

But if you target many of the long tail keywords for your main keyword (or sub keywords) within your website content, they can help you get targeted traffic. This targeted traffic are the people actually looking for your product or service, which can help build your business (and put money in your pocket).

Here is an example of how using a long tail keyword in your content can help you in the search engine results page.

Most people when they are doing searches using the search engines are not just using 2 and 3 words any more. Example Make Money, Create a Website, Diamond earrings, etc.

If they are using those searches, most of the time they are not looking to purchase a product or service but are just surfing around. Those could be your visitors, but what you want (and need if selling or promoting products) is the targeted traffic.

So if you really want to get into a very competitive niche area and you are set on that theme, find a few of the long tail of your main theme keyword and use those within the body of your text.

The below is taken from The Long Tail; Why it is Important for Small Businesses, an interview with Chris Anderson.

“Understand that The Top 10 searches at Google account for only a small minority of its searches. And half of their 200,000,000 searches per day are unique. That means that more than half of your traffic is unique… ”

Here is more information on “The Long Tail” and how it can help you.

You may think Hey, I’m just an affiliate, I don’t have a business. Sure you do. It is promoting the products of merchants and that is a HUGE business on the Internet.
